Macnas Halloween Parade

For many visitors, the Macnas Halloween Parade is the highlight of Halloween in Galway. The city streets become a vast outdoor stage, filled with giant illuminated puppets, drummers, performers and thousands of spectators.
The 2026 theme is An Treun: The Summoning of the Lost, inspired by a Bram Stoker tale and the call of the corncrake.
The parade typically begins near the University of Galway before travelling towards the Cathedral and through the city centre, including Eglinton Street, Shop Street, Mainguard Street and Dominick Street, before finishing towards the Claddagh.
From The Hardiman, the Shop Street section of the route is approximately a five to six minute walk from Eyre Square.
That means you can head into the city for the spectacle, then walk back to the warmth of the hotel in minutes while much of the crowd is still making its way home.
Our tip: If you would prefer a little more space, viewing areas towards the Cathedral end of the route can sometimes be quieter than the busiest city-centre stretches.
Gaillimh Ah-Boo! Festival

Gaillimh Ah-Boo! is Galway’s city-wide celebration of Samhain, bringing fire, folklore, food and live events to locations across the city.
The 2026 programme is expected to include the Tine Lasta fire show at the Spanish Arch, a Samhain community dance in Eyre Square, the Féasta Fómhair harvest feast at St Nicholas’ Church, Blás na Samhain supper clubs and the Dark Shores heritage walk at Ladies Beach in Salthill.
Many events are free, while selected workshops, feasts and dining experiences may require advance tickets.
