Places to Eat in Galway
Foodie Hot Spots
Galway is renowned for being the heart of cultural Ireland. It is also swiftly becoming the gourmet capital of Ireland. Here are our top places to eat in Galway.
Galway Oysters
Galway is famed for our native wild oysters and has not one but two Oyster Festivals to celebrate the start of the native oyster season each September. Rock oysters are available all year round but the coveted native oysters may be savoured from September to April each year. We recommend our very own Oyster Bar serving Dooncastle Oysters or Moran’s Oyster Cottage on the weir in Kilcolgan – a long history and a family of oyster opening (or shucking) champions!
Afternoon Tea
Afternoon Tea at the Hardiman is indulgently nostalgic with finger sandwiches and exquisitely presented pastries served with homemade scones, freshly whipped cream and fruit preserves. The Hardiman Hotel is Galway’s most beloved destination for this special treat and lovingly continues the tradition of afternoon tea with guests enjoying their sweet and savoury bites in the elegant Parlour Lounge.
Available to enjoy 7 days a week from 13.00-16.30 daily; €28 per person, or Sparkling Afternoon Tea €35 per person. Pre booking is advised
Brunch in Ard Bia
The darling of the Galway food scene is definitely Ard Bia at Nimmo’s. It is a modern Irish restaurant in a medieval stone building opposite the Galway museum. Expect character, gorgeous meals and lots of atmosphere.
BóTown
Craft burgers and beers? Sure what more could you want. If neither of them appeals to you, their milkshakes will most definitely bring you to their yard.
Black Cat, Salthill
Jazzy name, jazzy nature. Black Cat is one of Galway’s resident wine/tapas/jazz joints, why not pop out to try their signature pork belly dish that locals have been drooling over.
Handsome Burger
Some of Galway’s, and indeed Ireland’s, best burgers. The Handsome Burger guys are welcoming bums on seats in their newly revamped garden. You can also find them out in the beer garden at O’Connell’s right across the street from The Hardiman.
